Police car rammed during pursuit of ‘dangerous driver’ in Swindon

A police car was rammed during a pursuit of a ‘dangerous driver’ in Swindon.

Roads policing officers stopped a BMW X1 in the Dorcan area at around 1pm this afternoon (Friday).

As they questioned the driver about two deflated and damaged tyres, he sped off in the vehicle.

A pursuit was initiated and a stinger was deployed to stop the BMW in The Drive, Nythe. It subsequently collided with a bus stop, causing only minimal damage.

The driver then reportedly rammed a police car in an attempt to escape as the vehicle was boxed in.

Officers were able to detain the driver – who is now in custody, held on suspicion of dangerous driving.
