Police launch probe after youngster found dead on Wiltshire traveller site

Police have launched an investigation after a child died at a traveller site in Wiltshire.

Emergency services, including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, responded to reports of a girl unresponsive at Poplar Tree Lane traveller site in Southwick last weekend.

Paramedics found the youngster in cardiac arrest and despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to an address on Poplar Tree Lane, Southwick, Trowbridge at around 4pm on February 25 following reports of a girl in cardiac arrest.

“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the girl passed away at the scene.”

The force confirmed that a man, aged in his 40s, is assisting detectives with their investigation.

DI Debbie Hatch said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family at this incredibly sad time.

“We are still in the very early stages of our investigation, and It would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.”
