Police launch probe after cat SHOT with air rifle in Lyneham

Police are probing the shooting of a cat with an air rifle in Lyneham.

The incident happened in the Lancaster Square area between 10pm on 18 June and 6am on 19 June.

The 18-month-old pet, named Martha, sustained a broken leg. She will have to remain on cage rest until late August and may require surgery if the break does not heal in that time.

“This behaviour will not be tolerated and will be investigated to find out who the perpetrator is”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

They added: “If you have any information regarding this incident, please either call 101 quoting reference 54230066524, report online or submit via Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Martha’s owners say they are “heartbroken” over the attack and are worried for the welfare of their other cat, who was rescued from the Blue Cross and has only recently been allowed to explore the outdoors.
