Police officers pounce on suspected burglars in Swindon’s Old Town

Police officers pounced on suspected burglars in Swindon this afternoon (Wednesday).

There were dramatic scenes in High Street, Old Town, at around 2pm – as half a dozen police vehicles flooded the area in a bid to catch the alleged thieves.

Two people were taken out of the vehicle and detained following reports of a theft from a supermarket in Melksham.

Officers found a large quantity of champagne and spirits along with cannabis resin and cash within the vehicle.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of theft, while another man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of theft, possession of a class B drug and money laundering. They were both taken into custody for questioning.

Roads policing officers, a dog unit and local units were spotted in attendance – with the road blocked for a short time.
