Five teenagers, aged 14, were found nearby and arrested on suspicion of burglary.

One local resident reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area, as well as a police officer carrying a ‘sword’ – believed to have been seized during the arrests.

“I’ve just seen one officer carrying a confiscated samurai sword down the road”, he remarked.

One of the youths who was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and criminal damage, remains in custody this morning. The four others were released under investigation.

Duty Insp Ben Huggins said: “Firstly we’d like to thank the member of the public who initially reported this incident to us while it was in progress – this quick thinking enabled us to be on scene quickly, contain the area, and locate and arrest five individuals.

”As part of our enquiries an imitation samurai sword was located and seized.

“We’d urge anyone with further information in relation to this incident to call us immediately.”
