Police find man asleep in car next to pool of vomit outside Swindon nightclub

A police officer found a man asleep in his car – next to a pool of vomit – outside a nightclub.

21-year-old Shivay Sachdeva pleaded guilty to being in charge of a motor vehicle while over the prescribed alcohol limit when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

The officer was on patrol outside Tree Nightclub in Old Town at around 4.30am on 28 May this year, when he spotted a BMW parked diagonally across a parking bay – with the driver’s door open.

He pulled up next to the vehicle and located the defendant asleep in the driver’s seat. There was also a pool of vomit alongside the car.

When the officer asked Sachdeva was he was doing, he claimed he was waiting for his friends and wasn’t intending on driving. The BMW’s tyres and bonnet were cold.

He provided a sample of breath, with a reading of 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. He was arrested and taken to custody.

Sachdeva, a project analyst from Ramsgate earning £800 a week, was fined £533 and given ten points on his driving licence. He must also pay £85 costs and a £53 surcharge.
