Police investigate Swindon man who shared ‘kneel on black people’ post

A Swindon man is under investigation by police for sharing George Floyd-related memes on social media after people complained about his conduct to his employer.

More than one hundred people from across Wiltshire and further afield have contacted Swindon Borough Council-owned company Public Power Solutions (PPS) about the man’s behaviour.

Sharing material on social media which causes upset and distress to people who see it can constitute a criminal offence. Some of those outraged by the posts reported the now suspect to the police and have since provided statements to the investigating officer.

One post referred to kneeling on a black people to avoid getting dirty whilst changing a tyre, whilst another suggested Mr Floyd should have survived due to having a large nose.

Director of Business Services Cheryl Sloan for PPS said “immediate action” was taken against the employee in line with their HR procedures. He’s likely to have been dismissed from his role.

The Electromechanical Engineer is now the subject of a police investigation into the hate crime.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police commented: “We have been made aware of some social media comments and are currently investigating the alleged posts.”
