Police investigate after woman injured and dog killed in Devizes attack

Wiltshire Police has launched an investigation after a fatal dog attack in Devizes.

The force was called to reports that an Alsatian-type dog had attacked a West Highland Terrier, leaving it with severe injuries, at around 5.15pm.

A woman also suffered serious hand injuries in the incident near Nursteed Community Primary School in Brickey Lane.

The casualty’s wounds are believed to have been caused by the offending dog’s teeth as she tried to save the terrier from its grip.

The dog was treated by an off-duty nurse before being rushed to a local vet where it was put down due to the unsurvivable injuries sustained.

“Enquiries are ongoing to contact the owner of the other animal involved in the incident”, Wiltshire Police said as it confirmed an investigation is underway.

Anyone with information relating to the incident should call the police on 101.
