Police helicopter searches for car after ‘child abduction attempt’ in Highworth

The police helicopter circled Highworth this afternoon following a what is being branded a ‘child abduction attempt’ at a play park.

Police raced to the scene off Barra Close at around 4pm after receiving a call reporting that a  man in a silver vehicle approached a nine-year-old boy.

There are believed to have been three men in the vehicle at the time – all three had beards, one was ginger and the other two had brown beards.

Wiltshire Police say there was no verbal communication between the men and the child and the child was not injured, but he has been left “very shaken up”.

The incident took place at the children’s play park off Barra Close in Highworth

The vehicle is believed to have been silver with black windows.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Enquiries are currently ongoing.

“Anyone with information should call 101 and quote log number 187 of today.”
