Police dogs and armed officers respond as driver runs from car on Swindon estate

Police dogs and armed officers raced to north Swindon yesterday evening, after the driver of a speeding car ran away from local officers who followed the vehicle.

The black Vauxhall Corsa was seen travelling at high speed down Cricklade Road, near the Moonrakers, so a pair in a marked police vehicle followed it to Fyfield in Penhill at around 7.30pm.

Once parked up, the occupants of the vehicle ran from the scene and eight police units were called into the area in order to search gardens and nearby wooded areas for the suspects.

Despite two specialist police dogs being used, the male driver wasn’t located.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At approximately 7.30pm last night, we followed a vehicle into Fyfield, Penhill and attempted to speak to the driver.

“When the vehicle stopped, the driver ran off from the scene. Area searches were carried out but the man was not located. Enquiries are ongoing.”
