Police dog searches fields as driver flees scene of crash in flood near Swindon

A police dog is currently searching fields after the driver of a van involved in a crash on a flooded road fled the scene.

Emergency services were called to Wanborough Road, in Wanborough, at around 7pm following reports of a road traffic collision involving a Mini Cooper and a white van.

The male driver of the van was witnessed running from the scene and into nearby fields moments afterwards. A police dog unit was deployed to conduct a search of the local area.

The female driver of the Mini has been transported to Great Western Hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be serious.

A spokesperson for Witney Cable Co told Wiltshire 999s that van was stolen from an employee’s address in the area at around 6.45pm – moments before it was involved in the collision. The theft was not reported to the police prior to the crash.
