Police dog detained man who threatened distribution centre staff with a knife

A man’s been arrested after threatening distribution centre staff with a knife in Swindon.

Police officers raced to reports of the suspect brandishing a knife towards workers at the WHSmith headquarters in Greenbridge Road at around 3.30am this morning.

On their arrival, the man fled the scene on a bicycle towards Dorcan Way and a dog unit was requested. After being nudged by pursuing police vehicles, he was forced to drop his bicycle but continued to run from officers on foot.

A short time later police dog Bree confronted the man and detained him.

A 19-year-old man remains in custody, Wiltshire Police confirmed.

He’s being held on suspicion of possession of a bladed instrument in a public place.
