Police close two Swindon roads after burst water main causes flooding

Two main roads in Swindon have been closed due to flooding this afternoon.

Police have closed Whitehill Way between Grange Park and Shaw Ridge and Teweskbury Way between Freshbrook (Asda) and Shaw Ridge due to dangerous road conditions.

The flood is thought to have been caused by a burst water main.

Thames Water is aware and making their way to the site to investigate.

The subway under the road is currently open, but is slowly filling and will soon be impassable.

Whitehill Way in particular – where the issue originated – is likely to be closed for some time.

On a webpage dedicated to this fault, Thames Water said: “Thanks for letting us know about low water pressure and no water in SN5. This is due to a burst pipe on Whitehill Way.

“Our specialist engineers are already on their way to investigate the problem, and they will be doing everything they can to get things up and running as quickly as possible.

“We’re really sorry if this has disrupted your day.”
