Police close roads as firefighters deal with large-scale flooding in Swindon

Firefighters in Swindon are dealing with a large-scale flood affecting homes.

Emergency services were first made aware of the incident, caused by a burst water main in the Haydon Wick area, in the early hours of this morning.

Wiltshire Police has closed Thames Avenue (near Morrisons) due to deep floodwater.

Water is understood to have breached a number of domestic properties in the area.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are currently dealing with large scale flooding due to a burst water main in Haydon Wick.

“Please avoid the area as Wiltshire Police have implemented a road closure at the bottom of Thames Avenue. This is expected to be in place for some time so please avoid.”
