Police vehicle collides with car whilst responding to 999 call in Swindon

A police car responding to a 999 call has been involved in a crash this afternoon.

The vehicle was travelling on blue lights at the time of the collision – which involved a black Honda being driven by a member of the public – on Oxford Road at around 2.30pm.

It is believed the police car was overtaking the Honda, which was travelling in the same direction down the main road, when it began to turn right into Burden Close and was struck. As a result of the collision, the Honda also demolished part of a garden wall.

The police officers involved were not injured in the crash, but a woman casualty from the Honda has been taken to Great Western Hospital as a precaution.

It is not currently clear who was at fault.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 2.30pm today a marked police car responding to an incident was involved in a collision with another car on the Oxford Road, Swindon.

“Thankfully no one was injured and the female member of the public in the private vehicle was taken to hospital as a precaution.”

The road reopened at 4pm.
