Police to patrol Calne Bike Meet as ‘some riders expected to break speed limits’

Police will patrol Calne Bike Meet in a bid to deter speeding bikers on the A4 and A3102.

PCSO Mark Cook said the town welcomes back the meet, which will take place tomorrow (Saturday, 30 July) – but warned unruly motorcyclists not to spoil the fun.

“Whilst we understand the vast majority of riders attending this event will be well behaved and ride responsibly. There unfortunately will always be a very small number of riders who may see the day as an opportunity to greatly exceed the speed limits on our roads”, he said.

Adding: “On previous years we have received a number of complaints from residents along the A4 and A3102 routes. If you are attending the event, please ride responsibly.”

The PCSO advised bikers who wish to drive at excess speed to “do it safely and visit a local racetrack”, rather than risk lives on Wiltshire’s roads.

He continued: “Police patrols will be in the area on the day. Please don’t spoil the day for yourself or others.

“Please respect the event organisers and marshals, without them giving up their spare time this event could not take place. Calne CCTV operators will also be monitoring the town centre to ensure the day runs smoothly and safely.

“Please park your vehicle as appropriately as possible, especially in Station Road. Please do not park near the Calne Fire station. This is an emergency service route. Their vehicles may need to attend an emergency on the day.

“Ride safe, and enjoy the day.”
