Police called to Swindon play area after man accused of photographing children

Police were called to a children’s play area in Swindon yesterday over concerns raised about a man.

Officers responded to the 999 call from a member of the public reporting that a man was acting suspiciously on the field near Grange Infant School on Delamere Drive, Stratton, at around 2.40pm.

There were worried the man may have been photographing children playing in the park on this mobile phone, but when officers arrived to check it, there was nothing to find.

“Officers attended and spoke to the man, including checking his mobile phone and a notebook he was carrying”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police commented.

Adding: “[The officers] were content there were no photographs on his phone and the matter had been a misunderstanding.

“We would always encourage people to report suspicious incidents to us and we are pleased to report that in this instance no crime had been committed.”

Whilst there is no law preventing people from taking photographs of anyone – including children – in public, by doing so they could commit harassment or public order offences.
