Police arrest man after paedophile hunters conduct sting at Swindon pub

A man has been arrested following a paedophile hunter sting at a Swindon.

The so-called child protection team arrived at The Savoy public house in Regent Street at 2.45pm today (2 January).

Members of the group located the suspect inside the town centre’s Wetherspoons establishment before escorting him outside to discuss the matter.

The paedophile hunters allege the male, aged in his 50s, was engaging in sexual communication with a 14-year-old girl.

Wiltshire Police were alerted to the sting, arriving at the scene – an alleyway between Regent Street and Regent Close – 45 minutes later.

After a swift search by officers, who seized the suspect’s phone, he was cuffed before being taken through Swindon town centre to the Town Hall and placed in a police car.

A force spokesperson confirmed a 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child. He remains in police custody for questioning.
