Police arrest man after football players racially abused at match in Salisbury

A man’s been arrested after shouting racial abuse at football players in Salisbury.

Police are investigating which occurred at around 2.45pm on Saturday at a match between George and Dragon FC and FC Stunde at The Green, Bishopdown.

A man in his 60s from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment in connection with the incident and has been interviewed. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

PC Jim Brown said: “We understand that there were a number of witnesses to the incident and we need to speak to them as part of our enquiries. If you can help, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Behaviour of this nature is completely unacceptable and will simply not be tolerated.”
