Flames engulf Wiltshire recycling centre with dozens of firefighters on scene

A major blaze has broken out at a Wiltshire recycling centre overnight.

Dozens of firefighters were called to the scene in Stert, near Devizes, shortly before midnight yesterday (Wednesday, 17 November).

Fire crews remain at the incident this morning as they continued to battle the flames which appear to have engulfed tonnes of waste at the site – believed to be owned by Grist Environmental.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said: “There will be a number of resources on scene for the duration of the night and into tomorrow.

“Local residents are advised to keep windows closed due to the volume of smoke in the area.”

Crews from Calne, Pewsey, Royal Wootton Bassett and Trowbridge were in attendance in the early hours of the morning.
