Man pronounced dead after being hit by train in Shrivenham near Swindon

A man has died after being hit by a train on tracks just outside Swindon tonight.

Emergency services were called to the scene between Shrivenham and Longcot following the strike at 8.45pm, locating the body around 45 minutes later.

Several police units — from both Thames Valley Police and the British Transport Police — and paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service are attending the incident. Network Rail also has an Incident Response Unit at the scene.

The 8pm GWR train from Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington was involved.

A spokesperson for Great Western Railway said: “Due to a person hit by a train between Swindon and Didcot Parkway all lines are blocked.

”Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until 23:00 07/08.”
