Person airlifted to hospital after ‘falling from A350 bridge’ in Wiltshire

A person has been seriously injured ‘falling from a bridge over the A350’ in Wiltshire.

Emergency services were called to the major route at Upton Scudamore, located between Westbury and Warminster, at around 12pm this afternoon (Thursday).

It’s understood a person fell from a road bridge, landing in the path of an oncoming lorry. Thankfully, the driver was able to stop his HGV in time and provide assistance at the scene.

They’re believed to have sustained significant injuries and were reportedly unresponsive at the scene.

Eyewitnesses stopped to provide first aid and 999 crews – including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance – arrived to take charge shortly afterwards.

The casualty was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, the closest Major Trauma Centre, for urgent care. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The road was closed in both directions until around 2.30pm. The incident was previously, in error, reported as a serious road traffic collision.

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
