One dead and four injured in head-on horror crash near Westbury

One person’s died and four others were injured in a head-on crash near Westbury.

Two air ambulances were sent to the road traffic collision on the A3098 in Hisomley, close to Dilton Marsh, at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 11 April).

Emergency vehicles lined the A-road as paramedics treated five people for injuries following the incident outside Chalcot Park Farm, which involved a Ford Mondeo and BWM.

Despite medics’ best efforts, the driver of the Ford – a man in his 60s from Frome – sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

The front passenger of the BMW, a man in his 20s, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, the nearest major trauma centre, by air ambulance with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the BMW, a man in his 20s, was flown to the same hospital with serious injuries.

Two rear passengers of the BMW, both men in their 20s, suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for treatment.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Great Western Air Ambulance were both in attendance alongside four ambulance crews, ambulance officers, fire engines and the police.

Forensic collision investigation work was carried out until around midnight, with the road closed between the A36 and the roundabout with Tanyard Way/Clydesdale Road.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 0214 of yesterday’s date.
