Off-duty PCs receive ‘soup award’ after spotting injured missing person

Two police officers have received a ‘Cup-a-Soup Award’ from their sergeant after spotting a high-risk missing person with an injury after finishing their shift.

A search operation was underway to locate the missing person on Sunday afternoon, but PC Mann and PC Rees had finished their day’s duties and signed off when they noticed the person.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Swindon officers on day shift and evening shift on Sunday were searching for a vulnerable person who had gone missing.

“Team 3 officers, PC Mann and PC Rees spotted the missing person, unfortunately with an injury, whilst running home after the end of their shift and ensured she was given the necessary help and returned to safety.

“Police officers are never really “off-duty” and always act to preserve life, our overarching priority.

“The officers, for this good work, off-duty, can be seen receiving one of Team 3’s coveted Cup-a-Soup Awards (other soups are available!) from Sgt Whyte – maintaining 2 metre distancing of course!”
