New coronavirus regulations ban customers from dancing and singing in pubs

New coronavirus regulations coming into effect tomorrow will see customers of pubs and bars banned from dancing to loud music.

The Obligations of Hospitality Undertakings section of the regulations were amended to include that public houses, cafés, restaurants and bars have a legal duty to prevent dancing on their premises – regardless of whether the dancers are alone or in a group.

Singing is also banned, but only if you’re in a group of more than six customers.

The changes also include the banning of playing recorded music which exceeds 85 decibels at the source. That’s roughly as loud as a vacuum cleaner or kitchen blender.

Live music performances aren’t capped at 85 decibels; they’re exempt from the law.
