Mystery surrounds a ‘loud explosion’ heard and felt by hundreds of people in Trowbridge.

One local resident took to Spotted in Trowbridge to ask others if they had heard the loud noise at around 8.25pm last night, attracting hundreds of replies.

Meg Auton said there was a bomb disposal van outside her home in the John of Gaunt area earlier in the day, during daylight. She says the explosion happened shortly after it left.

Safe explosion, bomb shell or something”, Jordan Pinder commented. Adding: “old bill came and told us while we were playing five aside”.

But others suggested it could have been a sonic boom.

Rhys Wigmore told of how there were police and a bomb disposal unit on Wingfield Road.
