Murdered for a mobility scooter? Stroud ‘robbery victim’ dies in hospital

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the robbery of a mobility scooter.

Gloucestershire Police were called to Tesco on Stratford Road, Stroud, after reports of a man unresponsive in the car park at around 6am on Sunday morning (22 January).

The man, aged in his 60s, was found without his mobility scooter – which he uses as his mode of transport. It is believed that the victim was the subject of a robbery and his scooter was taken.

He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital by paramedics and died later that day.

The force wants to hear from people who saw a black mobility scooter being used by anyone in Paganhill between around 2am and 4am yesterday. It is described as having four wheels, a basket on the front and armrests.

A mobility scooter, which is believed to belong to the victim, was found by a member of the public later that morning, shortly before 8am, abandoned on Bisley Old Road.

Officers are in the early stages of a murder investigation – which is being led by the Major Crime Investigation Team.
