‘Move family, pets and cars to safety’: Environment Agency issue flood warnings

The Environment Agency has issued ‘immediate action’ flood warnings for Wiltshire, with residents and businesses in those area told to take precautions.

The two warnings were issued for the River Avon after a rise in water levels were detected at the Great Somerford (North Wiltshire) river gauge. It follows a night of persistent heavy rainfall and very wet ground conditions.

The agency says flooding of property is imminent for Reybridge and Seagry.

“We expect river levels to remain high until later on Thursday 21/01/2021.

“Please move possessions and valuables off the ground and move family, pets and cars to safety. Refer to your local authority website for local road closures.

“We are closely monitoring river levels and our incident response staff have been out checking and clearing weed screens.”
