Missing Corsham man with dementia found after spending the night outside

A missing Corsham man with dementia has been found after spending a night outside.

Police and search and rescue teams looked for 74-year-old John Roberts – who needs regular medication – yesterday afternoon when he left his home in Queens Avenue.

Despite area searches by the police helicopter and the drone unit, he couldn’t be located last night.

This morning at 8.45am, six police cars and an ambulance could be seen attending to John in a layby on the A4 Bath Road, nearer to Chippenham than Corsham.

He appeared to be safe and well, standing and walking before being taken into an ambulance.

A police spokesperson said: “Thank you so much to everyone who kindly shared our appeals yesterday regarding missing John Roberts.

“We are really pleased to confirm that John has been found safely this morning.

“Thank you to all officers and volunteers from Wiltshire Search and Rescue.”
