A missing child with autism was found during an eight-hour search on Salisbury Plain.
Police tasked Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) with finding the youngster shortly before 3am yesterday morning (Wednesday, 18 October).
Local volunteers, supported by Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs, swarmed the Salisbury Plain Training Area after the military relocated its firing exercise.
The missing child was located alive and well at about 11am, it was confirmed.
A spokesperson for WILSAR said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to the military personnel exercising on Salisbury Plain Training Area yesterday, who were absolutely fantastic supporting us to find a missing child with autism.
“The speed at which live firing training was relocated to allow search drones and the police helicopter to have the airspace was impressive, and officers from the army and navy supported the search in any way they could, including co-locating to share situational awareness and help us jointly understand risks.”
