Melksham man strangled girlfriend unconscious as child watched in horror

A Melksham man who strangled his girlfriend until she fell unconscious has been jailed.

Kyle Walton, 20, pleaded guilty to non-fatal strangulation, causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage at Swindon Crown Court on 27 January.

The defendant attacked his then-girlfriend whilst drunk, hitting her repeatedly and strangling her until she fell unconscious. He also damaged numerous items in the woman’s home.

After rousing, the 27-year-old woman fled her home and as a result of the violence, she sustained a fractured shoulder and bruising to her face and neck.

The sustained assault took place in front of the victim’s four-year-old daughter.

On 10 March, after two months remanded in custody, Walton was jailed for two years and seven months – he’ll serve his sentence at a Young Offenders’ Institute.

An indefinite restraining order was also imposed by the court, prohibiting him from contacting his victim directly or indirectly or entering Goldfinch Road.
