Man charged over woman’s death after ‘slapping therapy’ workshop

A man has been charged over the death of a woman following a ‘slapping therapy’ workshop.

71-year-old Danielle Carr-Gomm died at Cleeve House in Seend, near Melksham, in October 2016.

Hongchi Xiao was charged with manslaughter by gross negligence and a warrant for his arrest was issued at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court in 2019.

The 60-year-old, of Cloudbreak, California, returned to the United Kingdom from Australia on an extradition warrant and is due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates Court tomorrow (1 December).

Talking to the BBC following her death, her son Matthew said she had been on a week-long course involving paida lajin in a bid to cure her diabetes – and later died.
