Man threatens to jump from footbridge in Swindon town centre

A man’s been talked down from a footbridge in Swindon town centre after a mental health episode.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene outside the Wyvern Theatre entrance in Theatre Square where the patient was threatening to jump at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

The man was swiftly talked down from a precarious position around eight metres above the ground.

A cordon was in place in the area whilst emergency services attended the incident, which was over by 5pm.

A paramedic, paramedic officer and an ambulance crew were in attendance. The patient is being taken to Great Western Hospital for assessment.
