Man suspected of robbing elderly woman at Swindon cashpoint arrested

A man suspected of robbing an elderly woman at a cashpoint has been arrested.

The victim was withdrawing money from an ATM outside the Co-Op in Old Town, Swindon, on 17 January.

The woman, aged in her 70s, was shoulder barged by a man before he swiped notes from the machine. He subsequently ran away from the scene on foot.

Police issued a CCTV image of a man wanted in connection with the crime and officers have since made an arrest.

A man, aged in his 30s, is currently in custody at Gablecross for questioning. He’s been held on suspicion of robbery.

Adding: “Enquiries are ongoing. We’d continue to urge anyone who witnessed the incident to call 101 and quote crime reference number 54230005777.
