Man stabbed in attack near Swindon retail park as detectives launch probe

A man has been stabbed on a footpath alongside a busy shopping area in Swindon.

Emergency services were called to the serious assault next to behind SCS and Pets at Home in Bridgemead Retail Park at around 2.20pm this afternoon.

A man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Great Western Hospital with knife wounds – which are described as serious but not life-threatening.

A crime scene was put in place, which appears to include a bicycle. Detectives visited the area shortly after the incident, recovering various items in an evidence bag.

The National Police Air Service helicopter is circling the Dorcan and Covingham areas – part of search activity believed to be linked to the incident.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.19pm on Tuesday, 17 October to an incident on Great Western Way, Swindon.

“We sent a double-crewed land ambulance and an operations officer and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Great Western Hospital.”

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about this incident to call us on 101 quoting log 156 of today (17 October).
