Man “significantly stung” after taking flamethrower to wasp nest in garden

A man was “significantly stung” when he tried to destroy a wasp nest using a flamethrower.

Firefighters were called to the incident just over the Wiltshire border in Shaftesbury at around 6.20pm yesterday following a report that a man had set fire to a tree stump in order to kill wasps.

One fire crew attended the scene, extinguishing a smouldering stump using one hose reel jet.

Posting on Twitter shortly after the incident, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our first incident tonight was Shaftesbury who attended a premises where the occupier had attempted to destroy a wasp nest using a flame thrower.

“He had not only set the tree alight but also got significantly stung.”
