Man found shot dead in Wiltshire was Earl of Pembroke’s stepdad

The Earl of Pembroke’s stepdad was found shot dead in a car in Wiltshire.

Police officers were called to an area near Wilton House, close to Salisbury, on 12 June – after the body of 76-year-old Stuart Wyndham Murray Threipland was discovered.

According to a post-mortem examination, his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.

The inquest was opened at Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court yesterday (Thursday, 29 June). It was said that Mr Threipland was found in a car in the countryside.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Officers were called to an address in Wilton at 1.10pm on June 12 following a report of a sudden death of a man in his 70s.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared on behalf of HM Coroner for Wiltshire.”

Shortly before his death, he put his £25m Scottish castle up for sale.

In an earlier statement, the family said: “Stuart Murray Threipland, known to many as Tertius, sadly died on June 12 in Wilton.

“He will be hugely missed by all his family.”
