Several witnesses told Wiltshire 999s that the casualty was given CPR outside the former Burton store, near the footpath for the Borough Parade Car Park.

There were also claims the man was bleeding from his head, but it’s understood the incident isn’t being treated as a criminal matter.

The patient was taken to the Royal United Hospital. His current condition is unknown.

Wiltshire Police confirmed the incident was a medical emergency.

A police officer and two community support officers attended to provide support and ferry the air ambulance medics from the helicopter, parked off Westmead Lane, to the scene.
