Man arrested after officers hit with ‘fart spray’ at Swindon car meet

A man has been arrested after officers were hit with ‘fart spray’ at a Swindon car meet.

Police were targeted with an unknown substance, which smelt of faeces, at the unauthorised event on Hawksworth Industrial Estate on 30 September.

Officers’ uniforms which were contaminated with the substance had to be discarded.

A 22-year-old man, from Didcot, has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. He remains in custody this morning (Friday) for questioning.

Superintendent Guy Elkins said: “We will not hesitate to deal robustly with anyone suspected of such a crime directed at police officers in the course of their duty.

“Such behaviour is entirely unacceptable and we will ensure that such offenders are identified and face the full force of the law.

“I would like to thank members of the public for their support in identifying the suspect in this case.”
