During the search of his property, officers located cannabis, a cannabis grinder and magic mushrooms in both his bedroom and kitchen.

In his custody interview, Adams admitted to smoking cannabis.

He said his friend had picked the magic mushrooms and given them to him. Though, he claimed he had not ingested them and they had been in the cupboard for some time.

The defendant said he did not realise they were illegal.

Representing himself, he had little mitigation to add, only confirming that he works as a self-employed groundworker.

Magistrates fined Adams £333 and told him to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
