Man seen ‘jumping garden fences’ as police give chase through Chippenham

A man was seen ‘jumping over garden fences’ as he fled from police in Chippenham.

Locals said they witnessed the man running through gardens, over fences and into Monkton Park Primary School field in a bid to outrun them.

Units raced into the Monkton Park area, with one officer parking in Baydons Lane before hopping out of her vehicle and jogging across Blue Bridge to join a colleague also involved in the search.

A dog unit and armed response vehicle (ARV) were seen driving along Sadlers Mead at 11.25am.

The search was called off and units stood down, but Wiltshire 999s understands the suspect was later located and arrested.

It’s not clear what offences the man was wanted for, but residents living nearby suggested there had been an increase in daytime burglaries occurring in the area.
