Man in court charged with arson and assault following Chippenham flat fire

A 37-year-old Chippenham man has been charged with a number of offences following an arson attack on a flat in the town at the weekend.

Four fire engines battled the blaze in Queens Square from around 6pm on Saturday evening, where the two-bed first floor flat involved was severely damaged by fire.

James Parker, of Queens Square, has this morning appeared in court charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

He was also charged with three other offences which relate to incidents between 2 June and 7 August 2020. These include assault by beating, arson and two counts of criminal damage.
