Man, 70s, suffers head injury in assault outside Devizes pub

A pensioner was taken to hospital following an assault outside a Devizes pub.

Emergency services were called to the Market Place at around 7pm on Tuesday evening (9 May).

It’s understood a police officer found a man, aged in his 70s, with a head injury outside The Pelican.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment as police cordoned off an area in the vicinity of the pub, including the taxi rank, as a crime scene.

A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

After an assessment by doctors, the victim’s injuries were deemed much less serious than first believed.

It was established that the pensioner had been pushed over during an altercation. However, he chose not to support a prosecution and the suspect was later released from custody without charge.
