Man filmed brandishing large knife as brawl erupts at The Dockle Farmhouse

A man was caught on camera carrying a large knife during a brawl outside a Swindon pub.

Videos of the incident, which took place at around 7.20pm yesterday evening, show the mass disorder breaking out in The Dockle Farmhouse’s ‘family-friendly’ beer garden before it spilt out into the road as passing motorists called 999.

In one of the videos shared on social media, a man is seen to be brandishing an approximately 12-inch-long knife as he lurches towards others involved in the altercation.

A dozen police officers raced to the scene but the suspects had already fled the area

The fight is understood to have started when the establishment reach capacity and people were having to queue for significant amounts of time to enter. Instead of waiting, some people – mostly young men – attempted to access the site via fencing on Bridge End Road.

An 18-year-old man went to Great Western Hospital for treatment of a head injury sustained in the fight but as of this morning, police were yet to make any arrests.

Police officers waited for security guards to clear the pub of customers following the fight

Eddie Gershon, a spokesperson for Wetherspoon said: “We condemn the actions of a small group of people who were involved in a fight at The Dockle Farmhouse and apologise to our customers who had to witness it. The pub was full to capacity (reduced as a result of Covid-19 measures).

“A group of males were walking along the pavement trying to work out how to get into the pub without queueing to get in. At some point they got involved in verbal abuse with another group of males who were sat in the beer garden who we believe were known to them.

“This exchange led to a fight breaking out between both groups. There were several injuries, however all left the pub before an ambulance could be called.”
