Man ‘crossing M4’ fatally struck by vehicles near Wiltshire border

A man has died after ‘crossing the M4’ near the Wiltshire border.

Emergency services were called to the motorway east of Junction 15 in Swindon at about 9.40pm yesterday (Sunday, 7 January) following reports that a pedestrian had been struck.

A man, aged in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

Thames Valley Police believe he was earlier driving a grey Hyundai Iconic and was crossing the eastbound carriageway when he was fatally hit.

Following forensic collision investigation work, M4 reopened in both directions.

Investigating officer Sergeant Lyndsey Blackaby, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are investigating this collision in which a man has tragically died.

“Our condolences and thoughts are with their loved ones. The man’s next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage or witness information to please come forward, calling 101 or reporting online, quoting reference 432400009724.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience while we conducted our enquiries.”
