A man who crashed his vehicle into a lamp post has been disqualified from driving for two years.

Andre Mohidin, of Seacole Crescent, Swindon, was driving a blue BMW in Commercial Road on 5 December 2022, when he was witnessed by an officer overtaking and accelerating near a zebra crossing.

He reached speeds of over 70mph on Bath Road and overtook a number of vehicles in a residential area during a short pursuit with officers.

The 27-year-old went on to crash his vehicle into a lamp post on Portland Avenue, causing the post to fall across the road. A nearby house was also damaged.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Mohidin pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance and as well as the disqualification, was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 15 months.

He must also complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay £150 in costs.
