Man climbs onto rooftop in bid to escape armed police in central Swindon

A man climbed onto a rooftop in a bid to flee armed police who raided his house overnight.

Officers attended his address in County Road at around 11pm to arrest a 24-year-old suspect who was wanted for various offences relating to previous incidents, including an assault.

In an attempt to get away from them, he climbed onto the roof of the property. Some time later, the man engaged with officers, came down and was arrested.

He remains in custody held on suspicion of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH), theft and possession of drugs.

In early May, a 24-year-old man climbed onto the roof of the same building where he remained for more than three hours before coming down and being arrested on suspicion of common assault.

Armed officers de-kitted and left the scene at just before 1am.
