Man charged with three firearms offences after incident in Swindon town centre

A man has been charged with three firearms offences following an incident in Swindon town centre yesterday.

Armed police raced to The Parade and Regent Street at around 12.30pm after reports of a man carrying a gun.

31-year-old Joseph Mclaughlin, from Curtis Street was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm, namely a Westlake 0.177 air rifle and a Gamo 0.22 air rifle. He was also charged with being drunk in charge of a loaded firearm.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning.
