Man charged with serious offences as gun recovered after Swindon incident

A man has been charged with two offences after armed police swarmed a Swindon street.

Firearms officers descended on Burns Way, off Meadowcroft in Upper Stratton, following reports of a man with a firearm early on Friday morning (6 October).

A man was arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody for questioning.

Forensic work was carried out at the scene throughout the day – and a firearm was recovered, according to Wiltshire Police.

42-year-old Dean Snarey, of Burns Way, has since been charged with possession of a firearm while committing a schedule one offence and blackmail.

He was remanded in police custody to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday (9 October).

UPDATE: At the hearing on 9 October, the defendant was remanded in prison to attend a plea hearing at Swindon Crown Court in early November.
