Man left bloodied after ‘stealing bicycle and assaulting police officer’ in Swindon

A man has been left bloodied after an incident in Swindon town centre.

Police responded to reports of a bicycle being stolen in Princes Street at around 11.10am this morning (Tuesday, 6 September).

Soon after, officers located a suspect in the Fleming Way area and attempted to arrest him on suspicion of theft.

However, in a bid to evade arrest, he is alleged to have assaulted one of the officers.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of theft and assaulting an emergency worker.

The male – who could be seen with a black eye and blood on his face – has been taken to Gablecross custody for questioning.

At the height of the incident, five police vehicles were spotted at the scene – including an unmarked Vauxhall Corsa.
